Reporter returns to school to be quizzed
Former St Aidan’s student Geraldine McKelvie visited students who are interested in pursuing a career in journalism.
The Daily Mirror reporter spoke about her 11 years of experience in the media industry, writes Connie McMahon.
Geraldine said: “It’s really encouraging to see that even though journalism is going through a transition, there’s still so many young people potentially interested in going into a career in the profession”.
Elsewhere, Glasgow University students visited St Aidan’s recently to speak to S2 pupils about planning their options for the future.
Lauren Welsh, Hannah Kouris and David Brennan from the university ran interactive workshops over the whole day in which all of S2 participated.
Eighteen of St Aidan’s students from S1-S6 have been competing in the North Lanarkshire
Gymnastics Championships at Broadwood Stadium.
The commitment and talent of the St Aidan’s gymnasts really shone through as the school won four individual medals and three team medals.
Miss Louise Cairns, of the PE department, led the pupils to the event and was delighted with the level of success that they attained.
Finally, St Aidan’s Modern Languages department were visited by three students from Strathclyde University.
The students all study modern languages and came to discuss the benefits of languages and also university life with our second and third year pupils, writes Daphne Miller and Eilidh Kinsman.
Paul Farrell, one of the Language ambassadors, said: “For anyone who’s going into it I’d just say it’s very practical and interesting.”
The event was organised by department head, Mr William Bradley.
