Waddell wants step-up chances
Caledonian Braves boss Ricky Waddell says the Lowland League is an advert for Scottish lower league football, but is pushing for more promotion chances.
While Waddell has enjoyed rebuilding his squad for their own push, he’s seen East Kilbride and Kelty Hearts splashing out, and says that’s going to make for a very competitive league.
Waddell is happy to embrace that challenge, but would like league bosses to look at more teams going up it at some point.
He said:“I think as an advert for lower league football, the Lowland League must be right up there, in terms of excitement and quality, certainly for the majority of the league.
“East Kilbride are splashing a bit of cash, Kelty are probably doing the same, and then there’s East Stirling. All these clubs add up to a very competitive league.
“There is limited chances for promotion, and there’s no movement on that, which I would like at some point. That goes for any ambitious club, not just ourselves, there needs to be that opportunity.
“We’ll keep pushing, as a club and as a league, and hopefully our hard work and endeavour will pay off.”
Waddell is pleased with the side that he has assembled at Alliance Park, and might want more players in, but will also look at his own resources.
“I’m happy but I think there’s room for probably two others,”Waddell said.
“I want to integrate some of the younger lads in our 19s, there are a couple in there who could potentially make the step-up.”
