Turnbull to take Celtic by storm
Tony Watt has backed David Turnbull to be a sensation at Celtic – insisting his exMotherwell team-mate will take the Hoops“by storm.”
Turnbull joined Celtic last week in a £3m move that almost doubled Motherwell’s record transfer fee.
With a big price tag comes big expectations, but former Celtic star Watt believes Turnbull will go on to be a huge success in Glasgow’s East End.
The Motherwell striker, who netted in last Thursday’s 5-1 Europa League qualifying win over Glentoran, said: “From the day I walked in, I knew he’d go on to big things and he’s a genuine boy as well.
“He’ll go in there and take it by storm. He’s a hell of a talent and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s walking in that team and doing big things.
“That’s the type of player and the type of character he is.
“He’ll go in there like a fish to water.
“Davie is Davie. He’s a talented, talented boy.”
Watt has revealed he hoped Turnbull would take on his favourite number 32 jersey when he arrived at Parkhead. But he joked he was left disappointed when his old pal was unveiled as Neil Lennon’s latest signing.
He added:“I’m good mates with Davie, we have a good laugh.
“I told him to take the number 32 and you’ll go in and do well.
“But he obviously went in and took the 14 jersey, so I was a bit gutted he never chose the 32.
“I told him just go in and do your thing, but it’s not about what I tell him, he’s a top, top player.
“He’s not stupid and I heard the gaffer say he’s one of the best talents Scotland has ever brought through, and I don’t disagree with that.”
