Crackdown on speeding motorists in latest police campaign

-

Police have clamped down on speeding motorists in one area of Shotts.

Following recent complaints from residents, officers from the Community PolicingTeam have been conducting road stops and speed checks in the areas of Dyfrig Street and Hunter Street.

Working closely with North Lanarkshire Council and elected members, officers are able to identify areas of particular note regarding road safety and will be conducting checks at various locations throughout December to ensure road users are driving responsibly and within the law.

Area Inspector Alan Mulholland told theWishaw Press:“With the colder weather coming quickly upon us, we will start to see road conditions changing.

“I am appealing to drivers to ensure they take cognises of the weather and how this affects our roads.

“Colder weather can affect vehicle reactions and this can have devastating consequences for pedestrians and other road users if you fail to alter your driving depending on the weather conditions.

“We have the capability to report road users for speeding offences and will not hesitate to do this in support of safer roads in the area.

“Officers from both the Community Policing teams and Road Policing Unit will be making a focused effort to identify anyone using a vehicle illegally across all of the local village networks.”

If you are experiencing ongoing speeding issues or have a particular issue regarding road safety then you can call the Local PolicingTeam on 101 or make contact through the online contact form online.
