Coltness teacher is hailed after Scotland netball debut

- BEN BANKS

ScottishThistles head coachTamsin Greenway says Coltness High School teacher Caitlin Pringle deserves enormous credit after her first international cap.

Maths teacher Pringle earned her maiden Scotland appearance last week as they enjoyed a successful home test series against Barbados Bajan Gems, winning the two games 74-32 and 74-35.

A sell-out crowd at the Emirates Arena was anticipated for the nation’s first home international test matches in almost two years, with Pringle coming on to make her debut on the international stage.

Pringle represented Scotland in Badminton at the Commonwealth Games and reverted to her childhood sport in 2017, enjoying a fast rise up the netball foodchain.

The goal keeper was given the chance to join Strathclyde Sirens in 2020, Scotland’s biggest female semi-pro sports team.

Former England international Greenway said: “It was her birthday over the weekend as well, so it was a really good weekend for Caitlin. She has been through a lot. She’s had countless injuries in the last 18 months and she started a new job as a teacher. There has been so much put on her plate.

“She’s crossed sports as well. She’s represented Scotland at Badminton and to come back to netball, the sport she loves, I couldn’t ask anything more from her.

“She’s given it everything over the last few months.

“There’s been times where it’s been really tough and she’s still turned in some outstanding performances. She got better and better across the week.

“She was brilliant and a credit to herself.” Pringle is aiming to be a part of the Scotland squad at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next year.To reach the event in 2022, you must be ranked in the world’s top 12.

Scotland currently sit eighth, while Barbados are 13th. Greenway says that there are some exciting positives to take from the week.

She said:“We were really pleased with how it all went.We have been wanting a public test series for a long time.

“We got that and we capped it off with a good team performance.”
