Help at hand to weather storms

-

Emergency equipment to help during adverse weather conditions has been made available to local community groups across North Lanarkshire.

The resilience packs will be available for community groups and organisations to distribute during wintery or adverse weather, thanks to funding through North Lanarkshire Council’s Recover NL fund.

The special bags contain items including, hi-viz vests, head torches, cold weather gloves, emergency blankets, snow shovels, a compact megaphone, first aid kits and other support equipment.

Councillor Angela Campbell said:“These emergency weather packs could prove crucial in the event of stormy, wet or wintry weather, especially in outlying and difficult to reach areas.

“They provide a range of equipment to help keep people safe and aid the efforts of volunteers.

“We have many outstanding local community groups and volunteers throughout North

Lanarkshire who go above and beyond to help others, and through our Recover NL funding, we want to provide them with as much practical support as possible.”

The community partnership team will be working with local groups to ensure they have the equipment needed in their areas and that it is replenished when required.

The council’s deputy leader Paul Kelly added:“Over these difficult past couple of years, we have seen how much our communities have rallied together to support each other and look out for the most vulnerable.

“We have also seen spells of very poor weather with wintery conditions and storms causing disruption and these resilience packs will help local support efforts.

“We believe that working with our brilliant volunteers and community groups is the best way to achieve outcomes that will benefit our local communities.”
