- MATT BRYAN

Thousands of families had a blast last week as Hamilton Park Racecourse saddled up for their opening raceday of 2022.

The venue teamed together with Wishaw charity the Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation for a funfilled day of activities for children and big kids alike.

That included free entertainment from Denver’s Den Fun House, a pirate assault course, surf simulator, Nintendo Switch battles as well as some returning favourites such as segways, bungee trampolines, laser tag and much more.

Hamilton Park welcomed their newest partner, Strathclyde Sirens – Scotland’s only Professional Netball Team – who appeared at the Paddock Lawn, giving everyone the opportunity to meet the team and have a shot in the shooting circle.

The action- packed day also featured seven thrilling races with over £ 100,000 in prize money on offer. Highlights included the £35,000 Tangerine Trees Conditions Stakes, which was broadcast live on ITV and STV Racing, followed by the £30,000 Buttonhook Handicap Stakes.

The Hamilton venue thanked punters for attending, posting on social media: “What a great day it was yesterday for our opening fixture – The Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation Family Raceday. Thanks to everyone who joined us and made it a fantastic day of thrilling racing and family fun. Seems like you all certainly enjoyed your day.”

The Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation posted after the event: “What a fantastic day we had at Hamilton Park Racecourse for our family race day.

“Team DreamMaker had a great day and even had some winners.

“Thank you to everyone who came along, we hope you all had a fantastic time and enjoyed your day.”

Hamilton Park Racecourse also say they have created an incredible season- l ong entertainment programme with some special celebrity guests, which they’re sure “will wow our racegoers”.

A spokeswoman for the course said: “Offering the very best raceday experience, whether on or off the track, remains at the heart of everything we do, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone to Hamilton Park this summer.”
