Love and family make 70 years of happiness George and Annie’s platinum anniversar­y

A loving Shotts couple have celebrated an incredible 70 years of marriage in style.

George and Annie King marked seven decades of married bliss with a meal surrounded by their family.

Mr and Mrs King were wed on March 20, 1954, enjoyed their platinum anniversar­y and are as much in love now as they were all those years ago.

Proud daughter Lorraine Cranston said: “Mum will be 90 in September and dad will be 92 in October.

“They are very familyorie­ntated and love spending time with their children Shirley, Richard and myself.

“They have six grandchild­ren who are Stephen, Richard, Tracy, Christophe­r, Lianne and Amy as well great-grandchild­ren Lewis, Sophia, Bella- Marie, Hudson and new addition AriaRaine.”

Married by Mr Porter in the town’s Congregati­onal Manse, Annie worked in Wrens Nest and later as a shop assistant in the local Co-op.

George worked as a machinist in a few factories and as a miner in Hassockrig­g Colliery.

Mr and Mrs King have three children Shirley, Richard and Lorraine as well as six grandchild­ren and great granddaugh­ter Sophia.

When they are not spending time with their family, they enjoy working in their garden and trips to the theatre.

Lorraine added: “They love spending time in the garden. We just hope the weather in the summer is good and they can enjoy being out there again.”
