Funky Natz teeing off Cont@cts to remember Natalie
Charity golf tourney raising cash for Epilepsy
An annual charity golf tournament in which you can win a brand new car for a hole- in- one while raising money for a great cause is returning to Wishaw Golf Course this weekend.
The Funky Natz Foundation tournament raises money for Epilepsy Scotland in memory of 11-year-old Natalie Hughes who died suddenly in March 2011.
The foundation was set up by her mum and dad Eileen and Eddie following the unexplained death of their daughter, who had epilepsy.
Over the years the charity has not only kept the memory of the East Kilbride girl Natalie alive in people’s minds, but has raised a phenomenal amount of money for Epilepsy Scotland, having previously surpassed the £100,000 mark.
Last year the charity day made an exception to its fundraising drive for the epilepsy charity and instead raised money for dad- of- two Neil Moore, who was stricken with three different types of cancer in a short space of time.
Fantastic prizes are on offer to those who hit a hole-in-one at a number of the pins. Two players walked off with hotel breaks last year, but the biggest prize is a brand new car.
Natalie’s uncle, Iain Cairns from Wishaw, forms part of the committee and helps organise the event each year, and hopeful golfers will take to the fairways on Sunday, May 26, thinking they might just hit a hole-in-one and drive off with a new Renault Clio car, courtesy of main sponsor
Park’s Motor Group.
Iain said: “It’s always a great day and we’ve got something like 150 golfers taking part. Park’s Motor Group are again putting a car up for a hole- in- one at one of the holes, it’s a wee Clio this year. Last year we had two holes- in- one, so hopefully we have something again this year.
“We’re back to raising money for Epilepsy Scotland this year after raising money for big Neil. It’s their 70th anniversary this year, so they’re giving us some nice T- shirts to wear on the day. Funky Natz Foundation is the biggest fundraiser ever for Epilepsy Scotland, who are also holding an anniversary ball in October.
“As well as Park’s, KPP Chartered Accounts, who sponsor St Mi r ren, are sponsoring us again this year, we’d like to thank them and Watson Towers in Coatbridge for their continuous support and the cracking prizes they give us every year.”
More information on the Funky Natz Foundation is available on its Facebook page.
Epilepsy Scotland’s 70th anniversary ball is being held on Saturday, October 12, at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel.
