Green fingers are busy for show
SOME of the greenest residents of Wokingham will be showcasing their talents at a gardening contest this Saturday.
Members of Wokingham Horticultural Association will be holding their summer show at St Paul’s Parish Rooms from 2pm to 4pm.
Categories will reflect the season and, with the warm weather, a bumper crop is expected. They include fruit, vegetable and flower growing contest and flower arranging.
For under eights, there will be a picture to colour, a mini-beast to create from fruit and vegetables, finger painting of a flower, and a decorated scone.
For ages eight to 16, the association is looking for the best wizard's hat, a photo from the natural world, a picture of a scarecrow and a pizza to decorate. There are 2 interesting recipes in the domestic section, one for monkey bread (a yeasted loaf) and the other for a Welsh Bara Brith.
Members will be selling refreshments, plants, cakes, local honey and eggs as well as a raffle. There is also a contest to win a large willow support structure for the garden, which was made by Trish Matthews, who was the demonstrator at the two Willow Weaving sessions held by the Association in May.
Show entries should be sent in by noon tomorrow and can be sent via email towokhortass@hotmail. co.uk. More details can be found at www.w-h-a.org.uk.
