Solid silver for Ben
WOKINGHAM judoka Ben Fletcher picked up a silver medal in the Cancun Grand Prix.
The three-day event concluded on Monday with Fletcher, 25, reaching the final of the 100kg event, losing out to Israeli Peter Paltchik.
Fletcher, who competed for
Team GB at last year’s Olympic Games, defeated former world silver medallist Jose Armenteros in the semi-finals, throwing the
Cuban with a ura-nage for a waza-ari.
But the world number 28 lost out to a man ranked one place above him with 14 seconds to go in the gold medal match in Mexico.
“I put in a really solid performance and I’m very happy,” said Fletcher.
“I can’t thank everyone who supports me enough.”
