Moles get thrashed

-

BINFIELD’S slow start to the season continued with a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of rivals Bracknell Town.

But that score-line perhaps does not tell the whole story with the Moles in fact 1-0 up at half-time at Larges Lane on Monday, only to concede six after the restart.

That defeat combined with a 2-2 home draw against Highmoor Ibis on Saturday leaves Roger Herridge’s men 14th ahead of a clash with struggling Woodley United at Rivermoor this weekend.

Seeking a second league win of the campaign, Binfield welcomed Highmoor to Hill Farm Lane and fell behind in the first half only to grab a point in a game which ended with three red cards.

Binfield went 1-0 up in the 24th minute courtesy of a fine Jos Millar solo strike.

Grant Kemp came close to making it 2-0, only for Highmoor to equalise at the other end when Mitchell Parker ran through and beat Liam Vaughan.

The visitors turned the tables when a cross to the back post was slammed home by Trevor Mutero.

Highmoor continued to threaten after the break, but Binfield were handed a lifeline when their opponents were reduced to 10 men with Nicholas Grosvenor sent off for a professional foul.

Josh Howell levelled the contest with a brilliant 25yard free-kick and although Highmoor’s Austin Best and Jerome Coultress were both also sent off late on, the spoils were shared.

And Herridge’s men could not get a win on Monday either, although Gary Smith did put them ahead in the fourth minute.

But Bracknell stormed back with Seb Bowerman netting twice from the penalty spot before Jamie McClurg and Joe Grant (2) also got on the score-sheet.
