Care home workers help Alzheimer’s charity
STAFF members from a care home in Wokingham showed their adventurous side by trekking 26-miles for charity earlier this month.
A team from Alexandra Grange Care Home, in
Oaklands Drive, completed the marathon trek through the Wiltshire countryside on September 2, raising £3,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society in the process.
The trek, which can take up to 12 hours to complete, is rated as a tough by the Alzheimer’s Society and the team trained for months to ensure they were physically able to participate in the challenge.
The team raised the impressive amount of money through an online donation page and a number of fundraising events within the home for residents, relatives and members of the local community.
Dementia Care Lead Andrina Andrews, who initiated the walk said: “We wanted to take part in this amazing challenge to help make a difference to those individuals who are living with dementia, as well as creating further awareness of this life-limiting disease and help individuals to never feel alone.
“The 26-mile trek was very challenging physically and mentally. As a team, we supported each other and despite the pain and blisters we made it to the finish line.
“This was an amazing lifetime experience, we gained new friends and raised a great amount of money for a worthy cause!”
General Manager at Alexandra Grange, Magda Anca said: “It was very emotional waiting at the finishing line for the team but it was so rewarding and I am incredibly proud of them all!”
