Teens help Moles to a win

Burnham 1 Binfield 4

-

YOUTH was the way forward for Binfield as three teenagers got themselves on the score-sheet as the Moles clinched their first away win of the season.

It has been a mixed start to the campaign for Roger Herridge’s men, but goals from Harry Lee,

Alex Colverd (2) and Carlos Santoro, all 18-years-old, sealed a 4-1 win against Burnham, despite a second half Josh Howell red card.

Roger Herridge has been hampered by a string of early season injuries and had to make four changes again for the trip to Slough.

Jack Broome, Joe Gritt, Gary Smith and Jack Thompson-Wheeler dropped out, replaced by debutant Colverd, Liam Whyte, Josh Smith and George Lock.

The Moles took the lead courtesy of a Lee header, taking that advantage into half-time against a side still seeking their first win of the campaign.

Injury struck yet again soon after the restart as Liam Whyte was forced off, replaced by Dan Davies.

And things went from bad to worse as Burnham levelled through Gavin Austin before Howell was dismissed for a reckless challenge on 75 minutes.

However, it was the 10 men who grabbed the end of the game by the scruff of the neck as Colverd netted twice before substitute Santoro sealed all three points in the closing minutes.

Binfield are back in league action on Saturday, travelling to face Fairford Town (3pm).

BINFIELD: Hill, Lock, Lee, Knight (c), J. Smith, Brown, Howell, Whyte (Davies 55), Langford (Santoro 82), Colverd, Pagliaroli. Subs not used: Vaughan, ThompsonWheeler. n BINFIELD will face a trip to Fareham Town in the second qualifying round of the

FA Vase.

The Moles were handed a bye for the first stage, but enter the competition on September 23 against the Wessex League side.
