Golf club’s donation will help fitness of hospice patients

-

PATIENTS at a Day Hospice in Wokingham will be able to improve their mobility and fitness thanks to a donation from a local golf club.

Sue Ryder Wokingham Day Hospice, which is located within the Community Hospital in Barkham Road, was visited by Easthampstead Golf Club Captain, Steve Cross to receive a Thera-Trainer Tigo

502 leg exerciser, which will help patients maintain joint mobility, activate their cardiovascular system and metabolism process, increase endurance, and maintain and increase muscular strength.

The equipment was purchased after the golf club raised an incredible £2,595 for the hospice.

Louise Gell, Lead Physiotherapist at Sue Ryder Wokingham Day Hospice, said: “It is fantastic to have such a versatile piece of equipment. The bike can be used with patients of all abilities because it is able to provide assistance to patients who no longer have movement in their legs, easing stiffness, and resistance can be added to facilitate more able patients to build on their strength.

“Patients enjoy setting targets to achieve and making progress each week. We are very grateful to Steve and the club for purchasing the specialist bike and supporting the work we do here.”

Steve Cross said: “It was an absolute pleasure to visit the Day Hospice and see this exercise machine in action and the benefit that patients receive. I am very grateful to all of our members, their families and friends who so generously purchased raffle tickets, donated prizes, and gave their spare change to ensure this key piece of equipment could be purchased so quickly.

“We’ll continue to raise funds for the hospice until the end of my Captain’s year, so we look forward to making a further donation.”
