Rockets prepare for Bohunt return

-

READING ROCKETS return to action this weekend with a double header at Wokingham’s Bohunt School.

After a break with no games since October 15, Reading (2-0) are back with an NBL Division

One clash against Worthing Thunder (1-1) on Saturday before welcoming Division Three outfit Cardiff City in the National Cup on Sunday (both 5pm).

Rockets have already seen off Worthing in the National Trophy and will be looking to continue their winning start in the league.

“It has been a really useful time during these two weeks because we have been able to rest some players as well as have good quality, competitive practices,” said head coach Manuel Pena Garces.

“The guys have been working hard during this period and we look fresher and ready for the challenges that await us.

“After the game against Hemel the previous weekend, it was important for us to review and reflect on the performance and the end game to help us in our preparations for the two upcoming games.

“We will need this experience to help us overcome what could be a potentially really tough game against Worthing, because since we last played them they have added some real talent to their roster.”

He added: “Once Saturday is out of the way then we can turn our attention to another tricky encounter as we will be without one of our American players.

“Cardiff really raised their game against Worthing last weekend and reminded us all that anything can happen in cup competition.

“We will need to make sure we are tuned in and focussed for their visit on Sunday.”

Rockets go into this weekend with an injury boost as club captain Danny Carter is likely to return to action after three weeks out with a hip problem.

Teenager Alex Drincic will miss out on both games as he is currently in Spain with the JMA Basketball Academy, while import rules for the cup will restrict Pena Garces’ options against Cardiff.
