STUDENTS RAISE £2K FOR MIND

THOUGHTFUL students from a school in Wokingham have raised more than £2,000 for a mental health charity.

Pupils at The Emmbrook School, in Emmbrook Road, held a series of fundraising events across an entire week earlier this month, all with the purpose of raising money for mental health charity MIND.

Students and staff enjoyed cake sales, a non-uniform day and the highlight of the week: a lip-sync battle competition between students and staff, which was won by Year 11 pupil Wiktor who gave an energetic performance of Michael Jackson’s

Beat It.

Head Boy Colm Casey said: “Fundraising Week is an annual tradition at The Emmbrook. It is a great way of raising money for charity while also integrating the different year groups together.

“Mental health is such an important issue, especially in schools, so to coincide with Mental Health Awareness Day we decided to fundraise for MIND.”

Sixth form leader Peter Ging said: “The students have done tremendously well,

I don’t think anyone expected to raise over £2,000 but that is exactly what they have done.

“Fundraising Week is always a very exciting time, the students get to know each other a lot better, and the Sixth Formers always excel themselves. We are very proud of all of them.”
