Reach for your goals

-

HOW is the emotional rollercoaster going for you then? I want to start this week with a very quick recap on some of the methods you could use when focusing on the “HOW WILL I GET IT?” element from last week:

M – Get up 30 minutes earlier each day and free up some time for that muchneeded run.

A – What dietary change can help you manage your weight effectively to aid the running?

S – What words that you use each day can you change to put yourself in a positive state each and every day?

T – Design the programme to make the 5K more than doable.

E – Identify the obstacles and come up with some solutions.

R – Change your bedtime routine to allow the needed sleep that your individual body requires.

I really hope you have used some of those points and last week’s article to come up with some tactics to use going forward.

Now onto this week and this is now the 4th piece of the puzzle so check below how they all fit together:

WEEK1 What do I really want?

WEEK 2 What is important about it?

WEEK 3 How will I get it?

*** WEEK 4 What is preventing me from having it? ***

WEEK 5 How will I know I am successful?

So what is preventing you from reaching your goals then?

Obstacles do not block the path, they are the path. An obstacle is often a stepping stone.

In the great words of the iconic Michael Jordan – Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to CLIMB IT, GO THROUGH IT or WALK AROUND IT.

Amazing words, so how do we approach this area then?

Obstacles are things that block your progress, get in your way, or make it difficult to accomplish what you’ve outlined moving forward. Identifying these obstacles before you jump into your vision or work helps you anticipate challenges and proactively consider how to overcome them.

Imagine the obstacles that went through

NASA when they decided to put someone on the moon?

Imagine the obstacles that faced the officials of New Orleans after the hurricane that hit the area?

Just think about the obstacles that have faced various athletes over the last few years with funding and grants being cut?

Everyone has obstacles however it is how you move forward through these obstacles that are important.

What are the most pressing Obstacles you can think of that will get in the way of achieving your Vision? How might you overcome them? When writing your Obstacles, think about:

What’s going to make accomplishing your vision and executing your Methods difficult?

What do you need to be mindful of to overcome your Obstacles?

What specifically can you do to overcome your Obstacles?

What possibly could you use from past experience to aid in predicting these obstacles?

As always I like to use real life examples when writing my articles as I know so many people go through the same experiences so check out some possible obstacles to look out for:

Having the right foods at your disposal all the time so avoid making bad decisions.

Does your calendar seem ready for the changes that are about to happen?

Does your gym operate at times when you are freely available? If not, change your gym.

Do you have a recovery plan in place if you need to rest for longer?

There are many obstacles that may come up on your journey.

The greater the obstacle the more glory in overcoming it.

When reflecting over the last few years with my own personal journeys and goals

I can think of numerous obstacles that I had to face. Check out my M.A.S.T.E.R.Y formula in relation to obstacles when I reached my boxing weight class goal of 69kg during the summer:

M – How could I put some boxing focused work in my routine… Meditation and visualisation were key but what would there be enough time?

A – I had many social events coming up, how would I have manage intake with all the nights out happening in the summer?

S – There would be good and bad days as I was trying to hit a weight goal that

I had not seen since my teens so what could I inject mentally during these hard times?

T – What should be the core focus when changing my training program, stick with similar exercises or completely change it all up.

E – My wife would have to live with me while being very selfish with my personal goal. What could I do to get some brownie points to keep her sweet?

R – Where could I add some much needed naps into my weekly schedule so that I maintained a healthy mind and body?

For the record I added in three 20 minute naps a week when getting closer to my goal and found these kept me fresh each week.

So there you go. Obstacles…

Try and think about what could affect you moving forward this week, this month and this year.

As always, if you have any questions then please get in contact…

My door is always open to you.

Happy Thursday, now go and design your future!!
