Kestrels spot kick success

-

Beaconsfield Town 2 Woodley United 2 (Woodley win 4-3 on pens.)

WOODLEY achieved another slice of history by seeing off step four Beaconsfield in the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup.

And it was goalkeeper Alex Reed who was again the hero, saving two spot kicks in the penalty shoot-out to follow up his similar achievements in the previous round.

Battling for a spot in the quarter-finals, Woodley came up against a step four side for the first time in a competitive match and twice led the game before being pegged back.

United took the lead eight minutes before the break. After Danny Horscroft and Jaydyn Englefield had both gone close, the latter did find the net from the penalty spot after being fouled himself.

As good as Woodley were in the first half, they were pegged back after the restart through a Michael Peacock header.

However, the Kestrels quickly regrouped, going ahead again a minute later when Englefield found Toby Briggs to loft the ball over goalkeeper Jamie Norris.

Just minutes away from a memorable win, Woodley succumbed to another Beaconsfield equaliser on 83 minutes when a throw-in fell to Kofi Lockhart-Adams to smash home.

The game went straight to penalties and the visitors were behind after one kick each as Jake White saw his effort saved.

But up stepped Reed to save two Beaconsfield kicks while goals from Ashley Ledger, Joe Barley, Englefield and Liam Wilson secured a 4-3 shootout success.

WOODLEY: Reed, Barley, Goddard, Nicholls (O. Davies 60), I. Kamara, Cooper, Englefield, Ledger, Briggs (Wilson 87), Horscroft, Samuel-Harman (White 75). Subs not used: Hinds, Turner.
