Sumas get back to winning ways

Wallingford Town 0 Wokingham and Emmbrook 2

WOKINGHAM ended their losing run with an impressive 2-0 victory at Wallingford.

Sumas had been defeated in each of their previous five matches, but they turned things around against in-form Wallingford with goals from Sam Lawrence and George Marsh.

Dan Bateman made wholesale changes from the loss at Virginia Water with six new faces in the line-up.

Sean Woodward returned in goal while Nick Bateman, Ben Broadhurst, Chris Hood, George Marsh and Ben Winship also came into the side.

And Hood went close early on, firing just off target and Lawrence soon went even closer, cannoning a shot off the crossbar.

Marsh, who netted on his last appearance, looked to break the deadlock after the restart while Hood headed over as Sumas turned the screw.

But Woodward had to be alert at the other end to prevent Wallingford from snatching the lead.

And his save proved crucial as Wokingham went down the other end as Hood burst down the wing and crossed for Lawrence to score his sixth goal of the season.

Lawrence then turned provider to seal the win as he beat his man before squaring for Marsh to add a second.

The win lifts Wokingham up to sixth and attention now turns to the Reading Invitation Senior Cup on Saturday with a home clash against struggling Henley Town (2pm).

SUMAS: Woodward, Newlove, Day (c), Charlton, Winship, Dean, Marsh, Lawrence, Broadhurst, N. Bateman, Hood. Subs: Rushforth, Robson, Lambert.
