VOLUNTEER CORNER

- With Helena Badger

The Lend and Play Toy Library based in Woodley is a registered charity which provides low cost loans of toys, games and play equipment to families, child minders, carers and children’s groups across the area.

Parents become members first (for a £10 annual fee) and then they can hire a number of toys for a three week period.

The toy library also runs a party hire service offering larger play equipment suitable for birthday parties, weddings and events. A new Saturday toy library volunteer is required to help check, clean and process the party-hire toys and to use the database to book toys in and out on a minimum of two Saturdays per month from 10am-noon.

They are also looking for new committee members to join their committee.

Wokingham has had a Sports Council for over 40 years. The constitution aims to coordinate, promote and develop opportunities and facilities for sport in the district.

They organise courses such as child protection and first aid, provide sports sponsorship to under 18’s and hold an annual awards evening to celebrate sport and sports men and women in the borough.

Committee meetings are held monthly, usually on the first Monday of every month. The volunteer will need to attend every meeting, record the minutes, write them up and email them to the committee prior to the next meeting. The volunteer will ideally be passionate about sports and have good admin/IT skills.

Dingley’s Promise delivers life changing support to under fives with additional needs & disabilities and their families. Their centres offer a place where parents are made to feel welcome and they can make friends and share experiences.

Their Wokingham Centre is based at All Saint’s School in Wokingham and are volunteers to help support the children and chat to the families. The Group sessions take place Monday to Friday during schools hours, term time only.

They are currently looking for volunteers to help for the morning session; 9.30am-12.30pm and afternoon sessions; 1.30pm-3pm.
