Thames Valley Writers Circle

- DICK SAWDON SMITH

THE Thames Valley Writers’ Circle has agreed to donate the profits from its latest anthology of members works, Writers Reign, to the Royal Berks Charity.

This is the 16th publication by the Circle, which started in 1993.

Some of the stories, albeit most of them humorously, commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, while others also acknowledge Britain’s other most famous writer, Charles Dickens. Hence the title Writers Reign.

But there is a complete array of other short stories, poems and puzzles to enjoy, all written by members.

The Royal Berkshire Charity has since its inception in 2010, raised over £6.5 million which has been spent on improvements to facilities for staff as well the health and welfare of patients in the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Items provided range from small ones like pots of therapy putty for stroke patients, to portable ultrasound machines and Robbie the Medical Robot, which the Circle supported with a previous anthology.

The anthology will shortly be available at Waterstones in Broad Street Reading, or can be purchased direct from the Circle by e-mail at sally. johnson20@ntlworld,com.
