Wokingham Today

Who will clinch the festive Number 1?

-

IT’S the last week before Christmas and the race is on for that prestigious Christmas No 1 spot. In the midweek charts it seems Ed Sheeran is battling himself for that number 1 spot as his song Perfect takes on Eminems revival song River, which Sheeran is featured on.

Elsewhere the top 40 is made up of 12 Christmas songs from Wham, Mariah Carey and The Pogues, which are all set to land top 10 spots.

As for new releases, there will be a two-week gap over the Christmas and New Year period as we wait for the new year to kick off in style, with a David Bowie picture disc set for release on January 5.

So as we have no new releases to focus on in this week’s column we will bring you our two favourite albums of the year.

One of these is the debut album from English Hip Hop artist Loyle Carner whose fantastic Yesterday’s Gone album saw it rightly nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

Our other choice for album of the year is the sophomore album from London Grammar with Truth is a Beautiful Thing: it’s a chilling album which makes for a perfect listen.

We are pleased to announce a development with the Emmbrook Sports Club where we will be hosting BTD presents gigs and bringing exciting new bands to Wokingham.

We now have our first confirmed date of February 2, so keep your eyes peeled for an announcement.

Elsewhere we will be hosting smaller gigs in The White

Horse on Easthampstead Road, Wokingham on various Saturdays throughout 2018!
