Foursome Sumas

Didcot Town Reserves 1 Wokingham and Emmbrook 4

-

SUMAS jumped up to fourth in Division One East with a big win at Didcot Town Reserves.

Consistency has been the problem for Dan Bateman’s men all season but they followed up an 8-0 win over Thame Rangers last time out with a 4-1 win at Draycott Engineering Stadium.

Joe Cummuskey was handed his first start for the club after making his debut off the bench last week, replacing Chris Newlove in the only change to the side.

The hosts went close early on, striking the crossbar and they got their noses in front thanks to a Ross MacDonald strike.

Both sides missed chances for a second goal before Wokingham did level up when George Marsh slammed home from a Ben Broadhurst cross.

And Bateman’s men led 3-1 by half-time with Sam Lawrence and James Charlton both finding the net.

That lead extended to 4-1 after the restart when Lawrence found Dan Carter on the wing, who picked out Josh Pearson and his shot was scored on the rebound by Elliott Rushforth.

A Sean Woodward penalty save preserved the three-goal cushion and Sumas cruised to victory.

Wokingham end 2017 against leaders Bicester Town at Lowther Road on Saturday (2pm).

SUMAS: Woodward; Carter, Cummuskey, Day (c), Dean, Broadhurst; Charlton, Rushforth, Marsh, Lawrence; Pearson. Subs not used: Blake, Byrne, Scope. Attendance: 35.
