Moles make a point against league leaders

Highworth Town 1 Binfield 1

ROGER HERRIDGE said his Binfield side were more than good value for their impressive point at Highworth.

The Moles made the trip to Wiltshire to face the runaway Hellenic Premier leaders, who had previously won 19 of their 22 league games this season.

And they went into half-time in front again thanks to Callum McGhee-Parsons’ goal, only for Brad Pagliaroli’s second half strike to earn a share of the spoils.

Although Binfield keeper Henry Craven was given manof-the-match by the opposition, Herridge says that does not reflect how the game panned out.

“It certainly wasn’t one-way traffic,” said the Moles boss.

“Henry had a great game but I certainly wouldn’t want people to get the wrong impression of the 90 minutes of football.

“The facts are we started very, very well.

“Ian Davies chipped one just wide in the first 60 seconds and in the first 20 minutes we had them on the rack.

“They’re a very good side and they got into the game and for a 10 or 15 minute period they looked frightening to be honest.

“They’ve got very good attacking players.”

He added: “We regrouped at half-time and in the second half I can only think of one real clear cut opportunity for them.

“We had a great chance about 10 minutes from the end where Carlo Santoro’s got in behind and pulled it back for Will Shaw and he’s put it over the bar.

“We could so easily have come away from that game with three points.

“It was a pretty even game, both sides had chances and both sides had periods where they were on top.

“I don’t think too many teams will go down there and come back with anything so we’re happy that we’ve done that.

“If you’d have offered me a point on the Saturday morning before the game, we’d have grabbed it with both hands.

“It was a great point and a deserved point.”

Binfield’s scheduled game at Highmoor-Ibis on Monday evening was postponed, but they face a busy Christmas period with three games, all at home, in the space of eight days against Fairford Town (23rd), Bracknell Town (27th) and Royal Wootton Bassett Town (30th).

Craven, Thompson-Wheeler, Tuttle, Colverd (Shaw 70), Smith, Gerrard, Howell, Knight (c), Davies, Santoro, Pagliaroli (Hayden 70). Sub not used: Griggs.
