Do you have a couple of hours spare on a Friday? Would like to give something back and help the elderly in Woodley?
Age UK Reading is a local charity providing services to older in the greater Reading area. Services include Lively Living Activity Club, Lunch and Tea social clubs, Happy Feet toenail cutting, Befriending and Information and Advice.
They are currently in need of help at their Lively Living Club which takes place on a Friday club in Woodley. The role will include setting up, welcoming clients as they arrive, preparing and serving hot and cold drinks, serving meals and ensuring venue is clean and tidy when the group is finished. Volunteers must be friendly and caring, have a flexible attitude and enjoy spending time with older people.
The British Red Cross provide help in the community and part of that is their Medical Loan service. They provide mobility aids for a short term loan such as wheelchairs walking aids bathing aids so people can live independently in their own homes.
They are in need of volunteers to help in their Wokingham office.
The role will involve taking and returning telephone calls, demonstrating equipment, a small amount of paperwork and other ad hoc tasks.
They are also in need of volunteer drivers to drive their van to deliver their mobility loan equipment in the local area.
Abbeyfield Winnersh is part of the Abbeyfield Society Charity which was set up 60 years ago with its main aim to reduce isolation in older people.
Abbeyfield Winnersh is a specialist Dementia Residential Home and currently has 35 residents.
They are looking for volunteers in various areas such as Activity Coordinators, Befrienders and help in the shop.
Volunteers must be reliable, patient and have good communication skills. Experience with dementia is not essential as training will be provided.
