Earley band prepare for St Patrick – and for a national final

AN EARLEY-based windband are preparing not just for their spring concert on Saturday, but also for the finals of a prestigiou­s contest.

Trinity Concert Band has been selected for the National Concert Band Festival on Sunday, April 8. The group will be at the Royal Northern College of Music along with other bands competing for the title.

It comes weeks after the band earnt a platinum award –the highest grade – at the Southern Regional Festival. This award led to their invitation to the finals.

It will be the third time Trinity Concert Band has appeared in the finals.

Under the wing of conductor Paul Speed, the band will play a three pieces chosen to show off the virtuosity and musicality of the players.

Mr Speed said: “Trinity is an amazing band. Our aim is to bring another platinum award back to Earley.”

Two of the pieces the band will play in Manchester will be performed at a St Patrick’s Day concert on Saturday.

This will be held at All Saints Church in Wiltshire Road, Wokingham.

“As it’s St Patrick’s Day the concert will have a strong Irish content, but the programme also includes the Festival pieces Exultate by Samuel Hazo and Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance.” Mr Speed said.

Saturday’s concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12 up to 24 hours in advance or £13 on the door. Under 16s are free. For more details, call the box office on 0845 226304 or log on to www.trinityban­d. co.uk
