New car park charges to be introduced in April

-

WOKINGHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL has published its revised rates for car parking, which it intends to implement in April.

As The Wokingham Paper revealed last month, it is intending to increase daytime rates while scrapping overnight charges, bringing the rest of the borough in line with car park charging in Woodley and reverting to the charging structure previously in place before a £1 per night charge was introduced. It is a 12-month trial scheme.

However, plans to implement the charges from the beginning of March were postponed to April 2 after a mix-up over dates: the proposals were published before the council’s Executive committee had voted on them.

Most Wokingham town centre car parks will charge 80p for the first hour, £1.20 for two hours and £2 for four hours. Car parks that allow longer parking will charge £3 for up to six hours or £4 for up to 10 hours.

The council-owned part of Denmark Street car park will charge 50p for up to 30 minutes.

In Twyford, Polehampton Close East will be season ticket holders only during the day, free at all other times. Polehampton Close West will be 50p for one hour, 60p for two hours, £1.50 for four hours and £4 for up to 10 hours.

School Lane in Wargrave will charge 50p for one hour, 60p for two, £2 for four and £4 for up to 10 hours. Residents permits will cost £40 for three months and £70 for six months.

Any queries on the proposed charges can be made by calling Sara Allman of Wokingham Borough Council’s traffic management team on 0118 974 6856 or emailing CPE@wokingham.gov.uk
