Wokingham PROBUS Club

- DAVID HUNTER

WOKINGHAM PROBUS Club members meeting at John Nike Centre, Bracknell, on Wednesday, March 7, were taken on a photographic safari by the award winning wildlife photographer, Tom Way.

Tom gets face to face with his subject, literally eyeball to eyeball. His favourite country is Africa and he loves its big cats.

Some stunning photos were shown, not just of lions but all sorts of animal life from all over the world. From birds through the great apes right up to largest animal on the planet, the Blue Whale, all captured in spectacular clarity.

A most fascinating and entertaining talk, which was enlivened by anecdotes on the painstaking and sometimes frustrating process needed to get the perfect shot. All very much appreciated by members and guests.

PROBUS is a meeting place for retired or semi-retired professional and business people of either sex who assemble monthly in an informal and friendly atmosphere for social chat, a pleasant lunch and a talk on a general interest topic.

New members will be most welcome. Fees are modest, lunches good value and the company friendly with a wide range of experiences and interests from their varied working lives.

Meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month at 12.30pm for 1pm lunch, with a talk usually following. The meeting place is John Nike Leisuresport, John Nike Way, Bracknell.

Future meetings include such diverse topics as the Mary Rose restoration and Victorian quack medicine.

Prospective members will be most welcome to come and meet us, by prior arrangement please, and try us out without obligation. Please contact Hugh Dempster on 0118 973 0332.
