Ladies keep up the chase with tight win

SOUTH BERKSHIRE LADIES preserved their top four spot with a 3-2 win over struggling Wycombe Ladies 2s at Cantley Park.

Wycombe have picked up just four points all season in Trysports Premier 1, but they made it tight against South Berks with goals from Jane Clarke and Marie Lipscomb.

However, Berkshire secured victory to stay fourth and level on points with third-placed Wallingfor­d.

SONNING 2s stay eighth in the same league after losing 2-1 at Oxford University Ladies 2s.

Up in South Clubs’ Women’s Division 3A, SONNING LADIES’ woes continued with a 3-0 loss at Marlow to stay second-bottom of the table.

SOUTH BERKSHIRE 2s slip to 10th in Trysports Premier 1 following a 3-0 loss at Banbury 2s.

Down in Division 1, SONNING 3s fall a place to fifth after being held to a 0-0 draw by Maidenhead 3s at Sonning Lane.

Elsewhere, Emily Backhouse’s goal earned SOUTH BERKSHIRE 3s a 1-1 draw against Scarlet Runners while SONNING 4s won at Gerrards Cross 2s.

SONNING VETERANS lost at Amersham and Chalfont 5s while Mikaele Anderson’s goal came in vain as SOUTH BERKSHIRE 4s lost 3-1 at Bicester 3s and SONNING 5s won 5-0 at Amersham and Chalfont 6s.

On the men’s side, SOUTH BERKSHIRE suffered a double disappoint­ment with two defeats in MBBO Regional 2.

Berks were well beaten 6-2 by league leaders Reading 3s on Saturday despite goals from Tom King and Sam Fox-Harvey, before a 4-0 loss at Oxford 2s in a rare Sunday fixture.

The results leave Berks fifth in the table while SONNING, who did not play, sit fourth.

Mark Cooke and Ed Williamson found the net to help SONNING 2s to a 2-2 draw at OMT 2s in Division 1.

SOUTH BERKSHIRE 2s had a day to remember, thrashing Thame 8-0 in Division 2.

Paul Kaplanski fired in a hat-trick while there were braces for both Jack Baveystock and Kaya Campion and Sean Hardingham completed the scoring to lift Berks up to 10th.

A local derby in Division 3 ended level between SONNING 3s and SOUTH BERKSHIRE 3s. Chris Gosler and Christophe­r Roberts netted for Sonning while Duncan Clarke bagged twice for the visitors in a

2-2 draw.

Lower down the pyramid,

SOUTH BERKSHIRE TERRIERS and SONNING 5s both lost while SONNING 6s picked up an away win.
