Moles dig in to scoop final date
Binfield 3 Flackwell Heath 1
BINFIELD are into another cup final.
Roger Herridge has reached five finals during his time as Moles boss, but is yet to win any of them following two defeats to rivals Bracknell Town in showpiece events last season.
But he will get another crack this year after an impressive victory over Hellenic Premier Division promotion hopefuls Flackwell Heath thanks to a Sean Moore brace and Jeff Brown strike.
Herridge made just one switch following Saturday’s league loss to Brimscombe and
Thrupp with Moore replacing Kane Fitzgerald.
Flackwell took the lead on 21 minutes when Jordan Dowdican got in down the right and slid the ball underneath the advancing Henry Craven.
But Binfield quickly responded, equalising through a brilliant Jeff Brown strike from the edge of the box.
And less than 60 seconds later, the hosts were in front thanks to Moore’s first of the evening.
Moore netted again on the hour mark to take his season’s tally to 11 from 22 matches as he opened up a two-goal cushion.
And Binfield held on for a 3-1 victory, but it will be a tough assignment in the final up against either Thatcham Town, Bracknell or Brimscombe and Thrupp.
“Pleased to get to another final,” said manager Herridge.
“Two goals in a few minutes changed the game after a slow start by us.
“Something to look forward to now. The boys deserve it after the effort put in this season.”
Attention now turns back to the league as Binfield look to cause havoc in the title race with a home game against Highworth Town on Saturday (3pm) before hosting Bracknell on Monday evening (7.45pm).
