Life on the treadmill…

-

A TEAM of committed fitness instructors from a Wokingham town centre gym know that work can be a bit of a treadmill at times after an epic fundraising effort.

Alex Gale, a fitness instructor from Nuffield Health’s Wokingham base in The Plaza, organised a 24-hour walkathon in aid of Sport Relief.

His team set up three treadmills in the café area of the gym and ensured that at least one of them was occupied between lunchtime on Friday and lunchtime on Saturday.

And to ensure there was no cheating, he set up a webcam so that visitors could tune in and track progress.

As well as Mr Gale and other staff members, the treadmills were occupied by gym members who would have used them as part of their workout.

Mr Gale set a target of £1,000 for the charity and he has almost reached it: as we went to press, his Just Giving page was at £961.

Mr Gale said on Friday: “Myself and three other colleagues were going overnight. Some had signed up for half-an-hour, others for an hour. We wanted to get as many people involved as possible.

“Customers have been really supportive, they’ve come in and asked us about it.

“Some members came in and said we might as well join you as it’s for charity.”

And Mr Gale has got a taste for fundraising.

“Hopefully we’ll do more in future,” he said.
