Booth enjoys terrific debut

Redingensians Rams 31 Taunton Titans 15

TEENAGER Joe Booth scored on his debut as Rams put five tries past Taunton to stay third in the table.

Just one point separated the two sides at kick-off, but tries from Jamie Guttridge, James Baker, Booth and Conor Corrigan ensured a comfortable 31-15 win for the home side.

“I thought it was a really good game of rugby,” said Rams head coach Seb Reynolds.

“Both teams took knocks and the collisions on the pitch were frightening at times.

“Both teams put a great effort in defensively and credit must go to our defence today as we did a good job of shutting down a really dangerous Taunton side.”

He added: “Our attack also looked really good and I’m really happy with the momentum we created.

“Our set piece was outstanding and James Baker at tight head prop had a phenomenal game.”

Taunton put the first points on the board with an early penalty kick, only for Rams to take control with a try from Guttridge.

The home side controlled possession for the remainder of the half, but only found the breakthrough again moments before the break when Baker drove over the line. Jordan Souter added the extras to put Reynolds’ men 12-3 ahead.

Rams began the second half well, camping deep in Taunton territory and extended their lead when Booth picked up the ball at the back of the scrum and snuck over.

Jak Rossiter was stopped just short of the line as he looked to push Redingensians further in front, but they did eventually score again when Corrigan flew over down the wing.

Titans scored two late tries while Rams earned a penalty try of their own as they closed out the bonus point victory.

And Reynolds was pleased with Booth’s first outing.

“Joe Booth made his debut at scrum-half,” he said.

“He’s only 18-years-old and has only been playing school rugby in the last six months, but he’s been absolutely brilliant and congratulations to him on his first game.”

Rams have a weekend off before travelling to Bury St Edmunds on April 7 (3pm).
