Contest finds school’s talented young chefs
STUDENTS from a Wokingham school showcased their culinary skills for a fun contest.
Just before Easter, pupils from High Close School hosted the final of Young Master Chef competition.
Five finalists had won through to create their dishes before the panel of judges who included the school’s principal Zoe Lattimer and staff member Linda Deveson, and Rob Hughes, President of the Rotary Club of Easthampstead.
The contest was organised by the school’s Design & Technology teacher Dean Ralph.
The finalists from years
8 to 11 created a variety of dishes including Mexican Chicken stew (TJ Osborn), Chicken Tikka Masala Curry with Chicken wrapped in Naan (Hayley Meader), Mozzarella stuffed meatballs with spaghetti (Shannon O’Connor), Spinach stuffed Chicken with rice (Lewie Spicer) and Chicken Gorgonzola on a bed of creamed herb potato (Reese Dowsing).
Mr Hughes said: “I was, of course, obliged to taste all five dishes – at least twice ... as it was all so good.”
Points were awarded for taste, presentation and skills applied.
The overall winner was Hayley Meader who had prepared the Chicken Tikka Masala. She was awarded a certificate, a cash prize of £20 and a trophy.
The support for the contest is one of the ways in which Rotary clubs aim to celebrate young talent.
