Youngsters’ art show will send audiences to Madagascar

-

YOUNGSTERS from a Bracknell primary school have created a new art exhibition to wow audiences when they visit South Hill Park next week.

All years from Sandy Lane Primary School developed a range of artwork linked to the venue’s version of DreamWorks Madagascar which opens on Wednesday.

Their creations include colourful landscapes, Madagascan masks and papier-mâché penguins.

They are on show in the Wilde Theatre Foyer and on Thursday last week, children and teachers from the school met Bracknell Forest mayor Cllr Tina McKenzie-Boyle to show her their works.

James Rawson, a teacher at Sandy Lane who helped coordinate the exhibition, said that the project was a hit with the school.

He said: “The children were really excited, and the teaching staff thrilled to see how engaged they were, it really did spark their imaginations and we are very proud of what they have achieved.

“By creating a public art exhibition we were given a unique opportunity to reach far wider than the school community.

“The children have been looking forward to seeing their artwork on display and showing it to their friends and family. The school is keen to promote creativity within the curriculum, so to be involved with our local arts venue helps the children explore their creative sides, engage with the local community and encourage those who may consider a creative future career.”

South Hill Park executive director Craig Titley said: “A local arts centre is much more than a building that puts on plays.

“We believe the arts play a vital role in the lives of everyone in our community and in particular the young.

“Working with Sandy Lane Primary School in this way has been a privilege and I am sure visitors to South Hill Park will enjoy looking at and talking about the young people’s marvellous creations.”

The Sandy Lane Primary School exhibition will be on display in the Wilde Theatre Foyer until 30 April 2018.

South Hill Park’s production DreamWorks Madagascar – A Musical Adventure opens on Wenesday and runs until Sunday, April 15.

Tickets are available online at southhillpark.org.uk or from the Box Office on 01344 484123.
