Good, Evans! Half marathon couple bow out at farewell awards night •
LOCAL CHARITIES were presented with a share of £12,000 last Wednesday evening – the amount raised by runners in this year’s Wokingham Half Marathon.
And the annual cheque presentation, held at Wokingham Borough Council’s offices in Shute End, was a bittersweet evening for organisers Peter and Barbara Evans: they are handing over the reins to other committee members after three decades at the helm.
They were presented with a vase as a token of appreciation for their work.
Twenty five different groups and charities received donations on the evening, raised by 2,500 runners in this year’s race, held from Cantley Park in February.
The groups were: Berkshire Raynet, Hurst Cricket Club, Hurst Bowling Club, Reading AC, Wokingham Theatre, 1st Finchampstead Scouts, Girlguiding Wokingham and SE Berks Showtime, 1st Earley BP Scouts, Reading Roadrunners,
The Emmbrook School, Wokingham District Scouts, The Emmbrook School PTA, Cllr Rob Stanton’s mayoral charity, Red Diamond, Daisy’s Dream, Wokingham Borough Council sports sponsorship fund, Berkshire Schools Athletics, Berkshire Respite Holidays, Town Mayor’s Charity Account, Growing Places Berkshire, Home Start, Wokingham In Need, Remembering Reece, Wokingham Hospital Windsor Ward and First Days Children’s Charity.
Trophies were also awarded to the race winners: Rob Corney took home the Derek Bradfield Trophy (given to Roger Pritchard in his absence) and Naomi Mitchell received the Malcolm Bryant Trophy.
The awards were presented by Wokingham Borough Mayor Cllr Rob Stanton.
