Mixed results for Binfield

LATE GOALS proved decisive in a mixed week for Binfield.

The Moles battled back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at Brackley Town Saints on Saturday thanks to a stoppage-time Ian Davies strike.

But they were on the other end of the drama on Tuesday night as they squandered a 3-2 advantage to fall to a 4-3 loss at Windsor.

It proved to be a crazy game at Stag Meadow between two of the most freescoring sides in the division.

Binfield got off to a nightmare start as they were reduced to 10 men after just six minutes when Tristan Campbell was dismissed after fouling Jack Denton in the penalty area.

Up stepped Luke Brooks-Smith who tucked away the spot kick to put Windsor 1-0 up and Denton quickly doubled the advantage.

But the visitors got a lifeline just before the break with a penalty of their own after Davies picked himself up after being fouled to find the net himself.

That proved to be the start of a stirring comeback with Sanchez Commock equalising 10 minutes after the restart and just past the hour mark, it was 3-2 to Roger Herridge’s men as Davies bagged his 31st goal of the campaign.

That is how it stayed until Windsor mounted a late comeback to win 4-3 thanks to goals from substitute Jack Hall and Matt Stockhill’s winner in the 87th minute.

“Nothing but admiration for my lads,” said manager Herridge.

“A performance full of energy, purpose, desire and at times real quality.

“Great reaction to going down to 10 men. Sometimes football doesn’t give you what you deserve.

“I hate losing games, possibly let my players down with a couple of my decisions but overall what I learnt about my players will stand us in good stead going forward.

“Losing games like that teaches you some valuable lessons.”

But Binfield are still in sixth spot after picking up three points at Brackley on Saturday.

They again got off to a poor start, going 1-0 down on eight minutes but eventually equalising through Davies.

Brackley were handed a red card with 10 minutes to go and they were punished when in-form Davies netted again deep into stoppage time to clinch a 2-1 victory.
