Season ends on losing note

BINFIELD LADIES ended their campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Ascot Reserves at Hill Farm Lane.

The hosts led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a Charisse Tregear strike, but goals after the restart from Carol Checkley, Hannah Cornish and Darcey Young took the game away from Tom Canning’s side.

Binfield have now played all 16 games in Thames Valley Division 2 East, ending on 13 points which will see them finish either 7th or 8th in the nine-team league. Up in Division One, EVERSLEY AND CALIFORNIA also suffered a 3-1 defeat, losing at Barton United.

Katie Hougham levelled the contest just before the break after Lauren Smith’s opener, but late strikes from Charlotte Comley and Rosie Hodgkins sees Eversley slip to fourth. Elsewhere,

WOODLEY UNITED are one win away from clinching the Southern Division

One North title after seeing off Barton Rovers 1-0.

Barton had the better chances of a goalless first half but the only goal arrived just before the hour mark through Charley Evans’ long-range strike.

Rosie Page-Smith struck the woodwork in a bid to double the advantage, but one goal proved to be enough.

Woodley now know victory in their final league game of the season against Wargrave on Sunday will seal the title. WARGRAVE go into that game on the back of a 9-0 hammering to Oxford City in the Chairman’s Cup.
