White hot hat-trick gives Sumas a stunning comeback

JAKE WHITE scored a second-half hat-trick as

Sumas completed a stunning comeback victory over Sandhurst.

In what was their first game for seven weeks due to a string of postponements, Wokingham trailed 2-0 at the break but goals after the restart from White and Ben Broadhurst secured a dramatic 4-3 win.

The last time Sumas were in action was a 2-0 defeat to Chinnor on February 17 but there were just three changes to the starting 11. That included veteran goalkeeper Gary Collin as well as Charlie Dean and Elliott Rushforth coming into the side with Sean Woodward, James Clark and Chris Robson dropping out.

But Sandhurst took a lead into the break thanks to two goals from Conor Harlowe with Freddie Barron providing a fine assist for the opener.

White got in on the act soon after the restart, halving the deficit in the 47th minute before Chris Newlove went close to levelling.

And that miss was punished when Harlowe completed his hat-trick to restore the two-goal cushion.

But Dan Bateman’s men kept battling, pulling another goal back through White before Broadhurst made it 3-3.

And the memorable comeback was complete with just three minutes to play when White, who joined from Woodley United earlier this season, completed his treble.

Sumas, who sit fifth in the table, host Holyport on Saturday (3pm).

SUMAS: Collin, Carter, Cummuskey, Day (c), Dean, Newlove, Byrne, Harris, Rushforth, Broadhurst, White. Subs: Blake, Scope, N. Bateman, Clark, Marsh.
