Wokingham PROBUS Club

WOKINGHAM PROBUS Club members met at John

Nike Centre, Bracknell, on Wednesday, April 4 for their Annual General Meeting, which saw a shuffle of the club’s top officers to herald in the Club’s 50th anniversary year.

Vice chairman John Briault took the Chair for 2018/9 to oversee celebrations and retiring Chairman Hugh Dempster took the reins of secretary from longserving member Cec Williams.

Cec was warmly thanked for his 11 years of dedicated service to the smooth running of the club and was duly elected vice chairman.

Peter Neve and Roy Williams continue as the treasurer and assistant.

John Briault also took the opportunity to encourage more ladies to join the Club.

PROBUS has historically perhaps been seen as a men’s club, but not so now. It is definitely open to all.

Our photograph shows PROBUS Chairman, John Briault, welcoming a party of ladies flanked by Cec Williams left and Hugh Dempster right.

PROBUS is a meeting place for retired or semi-retired professional and business people of either sex who assemble monthly in an informal and friendly atmosphere for social chat, a pleasant lunch and a talk on a general interest topic.

New members will be most welcome. Fees are modest, lunches good value and the company friendly with a wide range of experiences and interests from their varied working lives.

Meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month at 12.30 for 1pm lunch, with a talk usually following.

The meeting place is John Nike Leisuresport, John Nike Way, Bracknell, RG12 8TN.

Our programme for the next few months includes a presentation from the Parkinsons’ Society in May, our 50 Years celebration lunch at the Coppid Beech Hotel in June and a talk on the Mary Rose Tudor warship restoration in July.

Prospective members will be most welcome to come and meet us, by prior arrangement please, and try us out without obligation.
