VOLUNTEER CORNER

ASD Family Help is a userled local charity to support children and families affected by autism in Wokingham Borough.

The Chair’s role is to ensure the Committee operates within the Constituti­on and fulfils its purpose; to lead and support the team; to represent ASD Family Help as appropriat­e and to set the agenda and chair meetings.

The volunteer must have a sound knowledge of autism and have previous experience of the charity sector and related networks including social services.

Time commitment averages around 10 hours per month, which is made up of committee meetings, meetings with the operations manager and dealing with general admin/emails. For a full descriptio­n or to discuss this role in more detail, contact the Wokingham Volunteer Centre.

Glebelands House is a 42-bed nursing and residentia­l care based in central Wokingham.

They are in need of volunteers to help with their tea trolley serving drinks to residents and visitors. Shifts are available Monday to Sunday 10am-noon and/or 2pm-4pm. Volunteers do not need previous experience but must be friendly, polite and reliable.

Alexandra Place provides social housing for over 55s in Woodley. They are looking for Volunteer reception help on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am-3pm.

The role includes reception duties – answering phones, meeting and greeting and dealing with enquiries. Other duties include chatting to residents.

The volunteer will need good interperso­nal skills and basic IT skills.

The British Red Cross provide help in the community and part of that is their Medical Loan service. They provide mobility aids for a short term loan such as wheelchair­s, walking aids and bathing aids so people can live independen­tly in their own homes.

They are in need of volunteers to help in their Wokingham office. The role will involve taking and returning telephone calls, demonstrat­ing equipment, a small amount of paperwork and other ad hoc tasks.
