Wokingham Borough libraries provide resources and services to inspire and support learning and knowledge for all.

Wokingham Libraries offers activities to help primary school aged children keep reading through the summer holidays as part of the national Summer Reading Challenge. Volunteers are needed encourage children to complete the Summer Reading Challenge by talking about books and promoting the SRC website and activities.

They will help with children’s craft activities and displays in Wokingham, Woodley and Lower Earley libraries during the school holidays.

Volunteers must be enthusiast­ic about reading; enjoy talking to and helping children and families; interested in craft activities; reliable and able to make a regular commitment; and able to arrange own transport to and from the library.

This volunteeri­ng opportunit­y is for volunteers aged 16 to 24 only.

Berkshire Healthcare NHS are the main providers of mental health, learning disability and community health services in Berkshire.

The Community Nutrition and Dietetic Service run community outpatient clinics in a variety of settings across Berkshire including GP practices and community hospitals.

They are looking for volunteers who would be happy to interview out-patients using our CRT machine (a hand held electronic device - we will provide training) following their dietetic appointmen­t. Feedback collection will be undertaken face to face at one of the noted clinics.

The role is based at clinics and hospitals across Berkshire, but the most local role is at Wokingham Hospital.

ABC to Read recruit, train and support volunteers who work on a one-to-one basis with primary school children who are struggling with reading.

Volunteers will visit a local primary school on a weekly basis and works with children individual­ly seeing the same children on each visit, talking and reading and playing games with them. The volunteers are supported by a field worker who is available to provide ideas and act as a link between the charity and the school. Their next training course is taking place on 14 and 15 May.
