Herridge not worried about Binfield’s dismal league form

ROGER HERRIDGE says he is not overly concerned by Binfield’s disappointing end to their league campaign.

Saturday’s reverse at Longlevens was their fourth defeat on the spin having also lost to Windsor, Thatcham Town and Highmoor Ibis within the space of 12 days.

Goals from Adam Phillips and Myron Turner gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at Sawmills

End before a late Ian Davies consolation strike for Binfield as the Moles end the campaign in seventh place.

“A week is a long time in football,” Herridge told The Wokingham Paper.

“Losing can be a habit as much as winning can be.

“It’s fine margins really. Over the last few weeks we’ve had a few injuries and a few players missing which has meant the balance of the side has maybe not been quite what we would want.

“We had some real tough games in a short space of time. The Thatcham cup game, the Highworth game, the Bracknell game.

“I think maybe there’s a little bit of tired legs and maybe some tired minds and certainly the league defeat against Thatcham (5-0) probably took a bit of the stuffing out of us in all honesty.”

He added: “We’re not going to lose too much sleep about it.

“We certainly would’ve preferred to finish sixth than seventh but what we’ve been able to do is give a few other players a run out like Liam Gavin and Owen Powell.

“We’ve been able to have a look at other things with a view on next season.”

Despite the loss, finishing seventh is the highest Binfield have finished since 2014/15 and Herridge is satisfied with how the season went.

“It’s a hard league,” he said. “You look at playing down at Longlevens on Saturday. Pitches have changed as well now, we’ve got young lads in the side that need to understand how you win games on pitches you can’t pass the ball on.

“It’s a bit of an education for them. It’s a tough, unforgiving league. “The facts are, the three sides that will finish at the top of the table have got the biggest budgets in the league by a long way.

“For us to be up where we are is probably about right in terms of where our resources are in all honesty.

“This league will always be tough to get out of.”

Binfield’s season comes to an end on Monday evening with the Perpetua Press

Floodlit Cup final against Thatcham at Windsor’s Stag Meadow (7.45pm).
