West Forest Townswomen’s Guild
AT the April meeting of West Forest Townswomen’s Guild, Liz Shilham the chairwoman, was delighted to present a cheque for £1,050 to Amanda McLean from the Thames Valley Air Ambulance. The money was very gratefully received and members were assured it would be put to very good use in the vital work undertaken by them.
This money had been raised throughout the year at a variety of events for members and friends organised by the Guild’s social and fundraising committee. These included lunches, teas, suppers and whist drives which had been very much enjoyed.
The speaker at the meeting was Tony Weston who gave a very interesting and informative presentation of his talk on Thames Crossings which covered many of the bridges and tunnels which have been built over the years.
At the meeting The Wokingham Crisis House was chosen as next year’s charity. This is a local run mental health charity offering free support to sufferers and carers.
Since the March meeting a group of members had visited Warings Bakery in Tilehust and were introduced to the art of dough making. After demonstrations members were given the opportunity to make their own rolls and loaves under supervision. Some results were better than others but it was all very much enjoyed and there was a good spread of sandwiches, cakes and tea afterwards.
Plans are now in progress for two summer outings yet to be finalised.
Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, May 21 in Emmbrook Village Hall at 7.30pm. New members are very welcome. Contact Liz Shilham on 0118 978 3585 or Terry Stafford on 0118 978 4844.
