But is it Art? Yes!

AWARD-WINNING jazz saxophonist Art Themen makes a welcome return to Norden Farm Centre for the Arts tomorrow night.

He fronted the Stan Tracey quartet for more than 20 years and is the winner of a British Jazz Award for tenor sax. He is acclaimed for his originality and individual style.

The musician was inspired to play saxophone after attending a gig by the Dankworth Seven, at the local Palais, at the age of 16. In 1974, the saxophonist began one of his central musical relationships when he started playing with Stan Tracey.

He has played with all of Tracey’s groups, touring with him all over the world as well as around the UK. Themen has also played and toured with visiting American musicians, including Nat Adderley, Red Rodney, George Coleman, and Al Haig.

But there is more to him that music: he was also a consultant orthopaedic surgeon. For 40 years, he combined practicing as a consultant with a music career. Following his retirement from medicine, he has been concentrating solely on his jazz career.

In Norden Farm’s show Themen is supported by Alex Hutton (piano), Andy Cleyndert (bass) and Clark Tracey (drums).

Tickets are £15, £13 concessions, and £5 under 16s. Tickets cost £15. For more details, call Norden Farm on 01628 788997 or log on to www. nordenfarm.org
