GDPR challenges unpacked at breakfast meet
THE NEW data protection regulations were unpacked at the last Wokingham Positive Difference meeting.
Miles Dagnall from Jem GDPR gave a presentation on the new General Data Protection Regulation that come into effect from May 25.
During the talk, held at Wokingham Town Hall, he explained that while it is not necessary to achieve perfect compliance by this date, businesses do need to start documenting the personal data they hold and consider the arrangements they have for keeping it secure.
In many ways the Regulation reiterates the rules contained in the 1998 Data Protection Act and should therefore not be a total surprise. Two key changes are that businesses must ‘demonstrate accountability’ and have ‘appropriate technical and organisational measures in place’ to protect personal data.
Mr Dagnall also explained the enhanced rights we all have as individuals under the regulation.
The group is now preparing for its next meeting, which will be held on Friday, May 18, also in Wokingham Town Hall.
The speaker will be Alice Francis from Approach Human Resources, who will be sharing the latest information, for self-employed contractors, business owners and managers who just want to get on with their business about HR requirements.
The meeting runs from 7.30am to 8.50am. Places cost £11 for members or £18 for non-members and includes breakfast.
