Top honour presented to RBH clinical psychologist
A CLINICAL psychologist has been recognised for what has been said to be an outstanding contribution, both to the health profession and for the difference his work has made to the lives of patients.
Dr Trevor Powell, who has worked in Berkshire for more than 30 years, received the British Psychological Society (BPS) Lifetime Achievement Award which recognises and celebrates unusually significant and sustained contributions in a career as a Chartered practitioner of applied psychology.
The consultant, who works at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, said: “I’m really pleased and proud.
I can honestly say that I have really enjoyed my career. Every day coming into work there has been something interesting, a different challenge and a sense of satisfaction.”
As clinical lead and manager of the Berkshire-wide Neuropsychology service, Dr Powell has developed clinical services, initially for those with an acquired brain injury and more recently for adults with Asperger’s Syndrome (ASD) and Attentional Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
This has provided adults with the opportunity for an expert diagnostic assessment. Dr Powell also worked for the Wokingham CMHT for over two decades.
Dr Powell has also been
Chairman of the charity Headway Thames Valley for nearly 30 years, enthusiastically promoting partnership working between the NHS and the charitable sector.
He has also carried out a number of small scale research projects, and has written six books, including The Mental Health Handbook and more recently Recognising Asperger’s Syndrome: a practical guide to adult diagnosis and beyond, a practical resource for those who receive a life changing diagnosis of Asperger’s/ASD, late in life.
David Townsend, chief operating officer at Berkshire Healthcare
NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“Trevor is passionate about his work and improving the lives of his patients.
“He is held in high regard by his colleagues at Berkshire Healthcare, and we are all delighted that he has won this prestigious award. I would like to congratulate Trevor and thank him for the marvellous work he does.”
