Parisian pedal power will help Danny fight dementia

- By JAMES HASTINGS

WHEN it comes to raising money for charity, Danny Hammond believes in getting on his bike.

His latest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s research will see him cycle from London to Paris.

Danny, 41, has already raised over £4,000 for charities including breast cancer and heart disease.

He now plans to compete in a gruelling 288 cycle from Greenwich to the Eiffel Tower after his beloved nan developed Alzheimer’s.

“My nan Nancy is 90 and is a wonderful lady,” explained Danny.

“I wanted to do something to help fight this terrible illness. She is an inspiration and a real fighter.”

Danny, from Woosehill, has to raise £1,550 for next year’s Paris trip.

The groundsman at Wellington College in Crowthorne, is already planning a number of events to reach his target.

“I hope to do a sponsored cycle at a supermarket using a fixed bike,” he added.

“It’s quite a big target but I know I can do it. Once I set my mind to something, I am determined to see it through.”

Danny is part of a fundraising group called Ream Warrior who take part in charity events across the country.

“We do things like the annual London to Brighton run and, of course, our very own Wokingham Bikeathon.

“The London to Parish trip is well organised and not as long as I thought but it should be exciting.

“I train as much as I can and do around 400 miles a month.

“I love cycling but above all, I want to raise money to help charities.”
