Market Place on schedule

-

WOKINGHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL confirmed that

Market Place will be opened on Saturday evening, as predicted by The Wokingham Paper last week.

Six months behind schedule, the regeneration project won’t be completely finished, but Denmark Street will be opened to traffic and the new flat courtyard area around the town hall will be available for us.

In a statement issued last night, the council said that there will be some final remedial works including drainage, cleaning and sealing, next week, and added that this is normal at the end of a construction project.

Contractors Balfour Beatty will handover the site on Friday, August 31 and the Market Place scheme will be complete.

At the same time as the opening, the section of Broad Street by the Town Hall to

Rose Street will be closed for a week, instead of the previously announced four.

It will reopen on Sunday, August 25, however, once this is open, there will continue to be a lane closure in Peach Street.

The diversion route will be via Denmark Street, Wellington Road, Station Link Road.

From Saturday, August

25 the same diversion route applies to HGVs as they will not be able to drive along the newly opened Broad Street for approximately one month.
