Masterpieces

- Alison Awuk from the Wokingham Seventh Day Adventist Church on behalf of Churches Together in Wokingham

HAVE you ever made or had something so magnificent that you cherish dearly? Something that left you in awe of how amazingly creative and blessed you are. Something that you are so proud of?

Or is there someone in your life that you think is just amazing and fantastic? Someone who you love and cherish so much? Someone who is so talented, that you admire? Someone who you cannot bear the thought of losing?

Sometimes, we get so carried away with our ambitions that we forget to pause and take stock of how far we have come and indeed how special, gifted and talented we really are.

The apostle Paul, in the Bible describes us as ‘God’s Masterpiece, created anew in Christ, so that we do good things that He planed for us long ago (Ephesians 2:10 New Living Translation).

The good news for Christians and those who believe in God is that each one of us is created with such care, love and uniqueness - each one of us is a masterpiece.

As God’s Masterpiece or Workmanship, He expects us to fulfil the two greatest commandments: Love for God and Love for others as ourselves (Matt 26:26-40). Love is infectious and can transcend barriers for race, culture, language, fear, doubt and many more.

It gives us eyes that see beyond what a person looks like, to how they feel and how we may help or support them. It helps make our homes and communities safe and secure places where we can all thrive to be the best we are destined to be without fears or insecurities.

How amazing life would be if we treated each other as a Masterpiece, created specially to do good works for our benefits and for the benefit each other!

Each one of us has the power to make that change – to make our community, the wider society and the world a more beautiful place.
